Welcome! My name is Ms. Alissa Abad. I was born in New York and raised in New Jersey. In middle school I loved learning new things in math, music, and art class. By high school I became passionate about these interests. I played clarinet in the marching band and enjoyed drawing and playing violin at home.
I'm still doing the things I love - in my free time I like to draw and paint, I'm taking violin lessons, and I'm teaching math! I also love to travel, learn new languages, play video games, and crochet. By taking ownership of your learning, you discover your own passions. I believe education opens the doors to those discoveries, which is why I hope to instill a love for learning in my students. I received my undergraduate degree in mathematics at The College of New Jersey and I moved to California in 2014 to receive my Master's degree in Teaching from Claremont Graduate University. I began my teaching experience as a math teacher in a high school in East Los Angeles. I'm grateful and excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve in this community. On our journey together towards success, my hope is that my students will grow to love and appreciate math and the arts as much as I do. It will be a challenging journey, but it will be a rewarding one as long as we give our personal best. "Mathematics is the art of explanation." "Mathematics is the music of reason." - Paul Lockhart |
